In China, on the one hand, girls (and women) have not gotten into the shoe craze like girls and women in the West.  In the West, girls and women like to get a pair of shoes to match each outfit.  My last girlfriend, in the U.S., for example, had about 300 pairs of shoes.  We men, on the other hand, maybe have 4 pairs, more or less, a brown pair, a black pair, sneakers, and a casual pair.

However, it gets even better.  In China, you can never give a pair of shoes to someone, like your boyfriend, girlfriend, lover, husband, or wife, because, if you give a pair of shoes to them, it means you want them to walk out of your life.  Personally, as a man who has bought plenty of pairs of shoes for women, I am liking Chinese culture and customs more and more. 

Guys ... don't get too excited ... dresses, skirts, blouses, belts, makeup, jewelry, lingerie, etc. are still acceptable as gifts, so we are not completely off the hook.  Worse yet, in Chinese culture, the man's family has to pay for the wedding party, not the bride's family, as is customary, in the U.S.
